We’ve put a lot of thought into mental fitness. With 1 in 2 Australians needing mental health support recently*, we realised that to build a mentally fit future, we needed a better way to do it. That’s why we’ve opened the Gotcha4Life Mental Fitness Gym.

For the community, from the community
Just like we have physical muscles to help us move our bodies, we believe we also have emotional muscles that support us to cope with life’s ups and downs. And just like we can work on our physical fitness, we can boost our mental fitness with healthy habits too.
Building your mental fitness involves adopting healthy habits that support how you feel emotionally, as well as identifying opportunities to improve your mental health.
And just like going to the gym to stay fit and healthy, working on your mental fitness is helpful regardless of the presence or absence of any mental or emotional concerns.
Emotions are a normal part of life. Whilst positive emotions are pleasant to handle, we can feel overwhelmed by some of our negative, or more challenging emotions from time to time. That’s when we need to use our emotional muscles to help us handle these feelings in a helpful way. When you build your emotional muscles, you’ll feel more capable of managing your emotions and building your mental fitness.

Healthy relationships and feeling connected to others are integral to our mental fitness. Our relationships can be a source of joy, and help us feel understood and valued. The close connections in our ‘village’ can also help us cope with challenges by providing guidance and encouragement when we really need it. Just like anything we want to see grow, nurturing our most important relationships requires investment of time and effort.

We can all find it challenging to cope with our emotions from time to time. Sometimes we face persistent difficulties, or a challenge we haven’t faced before, and this can test our capacity to cope. So learning to be vulnerable and sharing your worries with someone else can help you to cope, and recover from adversity. In time, positive experiences when we seek help from others can improve our mental fitness.

How’s your mental fitness today?
Founded with a purpose
The Mental Fitness Gym is a product developed by the Gotcha4Life Foundation.
Gotcha4Life is a not-for-profit foundation on a mission to inspire and enable people to take action to build their mental fitness. Our vision is a suicide-free world, where no one worries alone.
We develop and deliver preventative campaigns, workshops, programs, tools and resources in schools, sports clubs, workplaces and communities to build mental fitness.
Our work is based on 3 mental health protective factors: Building emotional agility and flexibility, enabling social connectedness and promoting help-seeking behaviour. We like to call these building your emotional muscles, nurturing your village, and never worrying alone.
We focus on early intervention and the power of prevention through connection because we know we are all stronger, together. Gotcha4Life was established as a not-for-profit foundation in 2017.
